02 Sep Moral Injury Following Traumatic Events: Working with Clients Who Have Violated Their Conscience
When clients experience overwhelming grief or moral injury after trauma, it can create difficult roadblocks to recovery. Many clinicians struggle with how to help clients navigate feelings related to “survivor’s guilt,” self-blame, or shame, which can feel intractable. This seminar presents to attendees nine steps for addressing, managing, and reducing moral injury, which can occur when clients believe that a trauma was a result of their own actions (and, sometimes it is).
This training will provide participants clinical knowledge and tools to:
a). Define “moral injury” and name at least two populations who tend to experience moral injury.
b). State the nine steps for working therapeutically with moral injury.
c). Identify one way in which moral injury differs from PTSD.
Target Audience:
The target audience for this event includes psychologists, social workers, counsellors, MFT’s, and other clinical mental health professionals.
