Motivational Interviewing is a style of communication that enhances motivation for change by helping the individual clarify and resolve ambivalence about the need for behavioral change. Participants will gain an understanding of the purpose of MI and how it can be interwoven into any therapeutic approach to enhance the power and effectiveness of practice toward better therapy outcomes.

  

During this dynamic and experiential training, participants will have ample opportunity to become familiar with the spirit and tools of Motivational Interviewing through individual reflection, group work, video observation and application to real clinical scenarios and case studies.

This training will provide participants clinical knowledge and tools to:

a). Describe Motivational Interviewing and how it works.

b). Learn and practice the use of OARS for effective client engagement.

c). Describe Thomas Gordon’s 12 roadblocks to effective communication.

d). Identify and describe implementation techniques to provide hope and confidence through the stages of change.

e). Learn to identify signals of discord & practice rolling with resistance.

f). Learn 10 strategies for evoking change talk.

Crystal Rozelle-Bennett, LMSW has been working with youth and families for nearly 20 years. She is committed to empowering, engaging, educating and advocating in order to implement trauma-informed strategies for individuals and communities. Mrs. Bennett earned a Bachelor’s in Arts in Psychology from Wells College and went on to complete her Masters in Social Work from Florida State University. During her career, Ms. Bennett has demonstrated a passion in sharing her personal and professional experiences with others to serve marginalized individuals and prevent re-traumatization. Ms. Bennett is a life longer learner and has provided education and support to foster families, facilitated psychoeducation programs for youth, responded to crisis hotline calls for the Department of Veterans Affairs, and trained behavioral healthcare professionals in the areas of Human Trafficking, Suicide Prevention, Child Trauma/Maltreatment, Motivational Interviewing, Racial Trauma, Cultural Competency and serving LGBT youth.

This online workshop will give you instant access to 2 sessions of video content, accessible via streaming on our website, as well as downloadable PowerPoint slides and other supplemental materials. You can view the course content in your own time, there is no time limit on access.
